Nostalgia with my daughters

Yes, I know, I missed my blog post last night, but I was finishing up (and finally catching up) on Game of Thrones. No excuse, I know, but as I am watching new shows, I can't help but remember all of the shows that I watched as a kid, some of those which my girls are watching now on Nick at Nite (this is the time when you know you are old).

First off, this weekend, the girls and I watched The Neverending Story and The Goonies.  This was the 2nd time Cadyn watched The Neverending Story and immediately when it came on, she asked, "Is this the one where the horse dies in the quicksand?"  I chuckled and said, "Yes" and she started freaking out!  She and Austin actually watched the whole thing, loved Falcor and were relieved that Artax came back at the end.

Now, Goonies is a love of our family!  HEY, YOU, GUUUUUYS!  So much so, that Cadyn got Wildcat of the Week in class this week and put Goonies as her favorite movie.  I don't know how true this is, but the fact that she put it down means she loves it. WE love it.

Another favorite of theirs is Home Alone.  Good ol' Macauley Caulkin..nothing could go wrong!  :)

Let's talk about what the girls love to watch on T.V.  Their favorite: Full House.  Second favorite, Friends.  They will also put on Fresh Prince of Bel-Air from time to time!  It's great.  I love hearing Cadyn say (while doing Spelling homework), "DJ, where have I heard that before?  It sounds familiar." Austin replies, "DJ from Full House."

Of course, having me as their mom, we listen to Beastie Boys (have you seen Austin singing it on Facebook?  If not: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10152145547951057&l=9063837995708603756) and Michael Jackson.  They sing along with both.  Cadyn was singing Billie Jean today with me.  And we busted out with some Journey yesterday as well to where we heard Austin singing it around the house as she's playing with her dolls.

I love my music, my movies, my shows, and my memories.  I remember how my mom would "sing" in the car on the way to school and work.  She would turn up INXS-Never Tear Us Apart, and I would cover my ears because I hated the song (NOT NOW...I LOVE it now).  She would play Led Zeppelin-Black Dog and we would all sing-along.  Or singing "Hey there Little Red Riding Hood, you sure are looking good, you everything that a big bad wolf would want...Aaaaarooooooo."  My dad loved to play his drums on the steering wheel when listening to Latin music and then he would hold the steering wheel with just his thumbs to where his pinkies stuck out.  Even better, the Bon Jovi war with my brother (You give love-a cinnamon name...don't ask, because I have no clue).  The best though is listening to Johnny Mathis on Christmas morning.  It is now necessary!

I am sitting here wondering, which of these moments that I cherish so much with my daughters, will they remember and talk to their friends and family about.  Only time will tell.

Deanna Margarita Hernandez Perkins Fallon Timberlake

As I sit here typing this, I have planned for this coming week at school, cleaned up the house some more, put my kiddos to bed, and set my alarm.  Now it's my time.  I have chosen to watch the Best of Jimmy Fallon on NBC.  It is the best way to end my night.  I don't know if you know this, but I LOVE Justin Timberlake.  If you didn't know this, who are you and do you know me?

What's even better is the mixture of Justin and Jimmy Fallon.  They bring out the absolute best of each other.  They just had their Saturday Night Live episode in December and now this special and their History of Raps are great!  If you don't know, now you know (take the time, you won't be disappointed):

And this is how I became Deanna Margarita Hernandez Perkins Fallon Timberlake.

Today, we were tourists!

Today the whole family decided to go downtown to Austin.  It's been a while since we had done it. Austin also decided she wanted to decorate her new room in the new house in a City of Austin theme.  We took some pictures of her and Cadyn next to some Austin landmarks.  We started at the Nightwing.  Austin is known for the bats under the Congress Bridge, so we walked to the bridge as well!

Austin wanted me to get the Frost Bank Tower in the background because "it looks like ice."  Cadyn says that "Jack Frost could have built it."
We then drove down Congress to eat at Homeslice Pizza.  Before that though, we took some pictures by Jo's Coffee ("i love you so much") and the iconic Austin Motel (both sides).

Then it was finally time to eat at the yummiest pizza place!  Homeslice pizza!  The girls got to play with their own plate of pizza dough and we got 10% off of our meal because Cadyn catwalked down the restaurant!  She worked it!  Austin also told me that she was "happy we were in Austin."

Our next stop was the Capitol Building.  Cadyn wanted to play in the lawn in front of the Capitol until she decided that she wanted to go inside.  She didn't want to leave.  We will have to go back and spend more time (we didn't put enough money in the meter) because she loved looking at the paintings in the Senate and House of Representative rooms.  They both loved the ceiling and floors as well.

The last place we visited was Mt. Bonnell.  We could have stayed there forever!  I haven't been there in so long I forgot how serene it was-even with all of the people who were enjoying the beautiful weather.  Austin is an incredible place.

We had an amazing day and I can't wait to print and frame these in Austin's new room! If you know of any fun places or awesome decorations, let me know.

Cadyn is decorating her room in Eiffel Tower (hot pink, black and white).  She now wants to go take pictures in Paris!  Oui, oui!

I just don't like how you act in my life!

Yes, Austin is 4 years old.  Yes, she is the sweetest looking and sounding child...

...but beware of the fits and tantrums!  It can get hardcore.  She is not quite sure how to communicate with just words.  She communicates more with whines and faces and gestures.  And when she gets mad, watch out!

How's that for drama?!?  She's 4 going on 20!  You wanna know what happened to provoke this?  Yeah, she wanted to sit in "Cadyn's" chair and was told no.  She stormed off saying, "I don't like the Perkins family!"  I asked her what she didn't like about our family and she said, "I like my family; I just don't like how you act in my life."  We just got told!  Until tomorrow...

Newtie Business

Who was first place for almost 5 weeks and ended up in 4th place in Fantasy Football (in one of my 2 leagues)???  This girl right here:
I'm not bitter at all!

Here is Catherine handing over the Newtie (named after Cam Newton) to Keri.

The majority of the Whitestone Fantasy Football gang.  We can't wait until next year.

Next up: Bowling League! Bowl Movements is on a mission!

What did I learn (or get reminded of) today?  Flu shots still hurt. Beers with friends are always good.  I would wear Victoria's Secret yoga pants everyday if I could.  Game of Thrones will turn me into a zombie.  Goonies never say die.  My 4 year whines for no reason whatsoever.  My 9 year old antagonizes my 4 year old (and thinks she's the boss).  I don't want to go back to work on Monday.

Goodnight!

Love will Thaw in 2014

So I have seen this multiple times on Facebook and decided to try to post on my blog once a day, no matter how short or how long.

Pepper says Happy New Year!
First off: HAPPY NEW YEAR!  The Perkins toasted in your honor last night!

Our midnight toast

Buddy is not too sure, but Happy New Year!

Today, being the first day of a new year, Chris took off work and we spent the day together as a family.  The first half, we cleaned up the house (I assembled my new vacuum and Chris put together his new Ninja).  We are SOOOO ready for our new house.  I'm going to be cleaning that house all of the time (no I'm NOT pregnant)!  Speaking of new house (*shiny shiny*), here's the progress to date:

We are ready for it!  I have been shopping for things online (that I can't buy yet).

Back on track...after cleaning up, we went to go see Frozen finally.  Austin fell in love with how beautiful the princesses were.  We even had a bathroom break in the middle where we discussed the decisions being made in the movie through the stalls.  I love the theme..."Love will Thaw."  And, my goodness, the "True Love" part is unreal!  I have two girls so I hope they understand the message.  It will be talked about more each day.  I loved Olof the Snowman!  He's too funny...even Chris laughed out loud!

Afterwards, we went to the Austin Aquarium...another establishment that has been under fire for the way they obtain their animals and the quality of care.  I understand that some people are shady, but my hope is this-I'm hoping that the shady person is serving their time and the rest of the family is truly in it for education and enticing our future to truly care for these animals.  It was, in my opinion, a work in progress.  Many cool things, more possibilities.  I LOVE the "Petting/feeding" tanks (there were 3 total) with stingrays and sharks.  There was even a "NO petting" tank that had all of those crazy fish that will eat you up.  Loved the bearded dragons and turtles.  There was even a place where you can feed some type of bird (next time).  I think they have to spend more time to decorate it better (still looks like it used to be a store).  It's truly not enticing to the eyes.  Slowly, but surely.  If they are still doing the half price family membership, I suggest you do that as opposed to buying a pass every time.

Waiting for the Stingrays to pet
We had a relaxing family day.  This break has been exactly what we needed...a break.  Family is what's important.  The love you have is warm enough to thaw ice!

Three years is WAY too long!

So, it's been three years (plus a month) since I've written a blog post.  I think it's mainly because I am on Facebook all of the time.  I update pictures, comments, and activities. But I want to write  a little something about my Christmas break so far.

First off, my family rocks!  I have loved EVERY single bit of my family time this Christmas.  This year we celebrated with the Kuchera's on Saturday, December 21st, the whole Perkins' clan on the afternoon of the 24th, my in-laws the evening of Christmas Eve, Santa Claus on the 25th (along with my in-laws' house for Christmas lunch), and the Hernandez clan on the 27/28th.  Yes, it's a lot, but the stress level this year was so much less.

What does this mean???  We got to stay in our footed pajamas ALL DAY LONG!  It was A-MAY-ZING!  We played board games with the family, watched TV, and took naps=heaven!

We also have had an Elf on a Shelf that the girls named Mr. Snickerdoodle.  He comes right after Thanksgiving and watches the girls every day and night while doing crazy things throughout the night.  Here is one where he took pictures with all of us when we were asleep!

I don't have a picture of the whole family on Christmas, but I don't need it.  The memories are forever.  We made an amazing brunch with my parents and brother and fiancĂ© Francis.  Chicken and Waffles, Croissants with strawberry butter, bacon, and breakfast casserole.

We also went with my parents to go look at lights around Cedar Park.  We even had a family that was on the Great Christmas Light Fight (https://www.facebook.com/RhodesFamilyChristmas). It was cute.  We also visited Chinati Court (https://www.facebook.com/chinati.court?fref=ts) and Del Norte which is right next to it. That is where we found this:

When you can't compete, that is what you do!  We also went to Anna Court off of Nelson Ranch Road and those were some bright lights!

All of these Christmas memories come after our unforgettable Thanksgiving memories which we spent in Disneyworld!  Cadyn and Austin got to spend all week at Disneyworld with BOTH sets of their grandparents.  How amazing is that?!  That blog will come later.

I do hope everyone had as amazing of a Christmas as we did!  Happy Holidays and a Safe New Year!
